PUDUCHERRY: Social Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy on Wednesday distributed financial assistance to 49 beneficiaries under the Swarna Jayanthi Shahari Rojgar Yojana, a Centrally-sponsored scheme to set up micro enterprises.
He distributed assistance up Rs.50,000 as 15 per cent subsidy for loans taken up by individuals for setting up micro enterprises such as tailoring shops, pickle production units, handicrafts, fancy stores, tea-shops, provision stores and saloons.
The beneficiaries were selected from the Assembly segments of Nellithope, Lawspet, Mudaliarpet, Oupplam and Orleanpeth.
The Minister handed over a cheque for Rs.1.25 lakh towards the purchase of load carrier vehicle to the members of self-help groups Vasantham Jeeva Jothi Thrift and Credit Society, Kurunji Nagar.
The Minister also handed over a cheque of Rs.1 lakh to SHG members of Vasantham Bismi TCS, Montrosier Street for taking up carpentry work.
Others who participated in the function, held at the Committee Room of the Assembly, included Members of the Legislative Assembly N. Anand and M.A.S. Subramanian, Director of Local Administration E. Vallavan, Chairman of Oulgaret Municipality N.S. Jayabal and Chairperson of Pondicherry Municipality B. Sridevi.
