A three-day festival of short films with the aim of sensitising people about crimes against women and seeking a safer society for women began here on Friday.

The festival’s slogan is “Our Lives to Live, No to Gender Violence”. It has been organised by the International Association of Women in Radio & Television in association with a Kolkata-based non-government organisation, Swayam.

The 50 short films being shown are part of the global campaign ‘One Billion Rising’ which was launched in November 2012 to protest violence against women.  “Though crime against women is a global phenomenon and is rising worldwide, the situation was equally bad earlier but went unnoticed due to the lack of coverage. ” said Swayam’s Anuradha Kapoor.
