Bharathi Raja, Manivannan and Seeman to address meeting

PUDUCHERRY: With election campaign coming to an end in the next 12 hours, two main political parties in the fray – Congress and Pattali Makkal Katchi – have planned rallies and public meetings on Monday.

Personalities from the Tamil film industry are expected to campaign for PMK candidate M. Ramadass in Puducherry. Film directors including Bharathi Raja, Manivannan and Seeman are expected to address a public meeting near the New Bus Stand at 12 p.m.

The campaign of directors, under the banner of Film World’s Tamil Eelam Support Movement, against Congress candidates in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, would highlight the United Progressive Alliance government’s failure to stop the war in Sri Lanka, a senior PMK leader said.

The PMK and alliance partners such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India and the Forward Block would organise a grand reception for members of the Movement, he added.

Supporters of alliance partners would also take out rallies in different parts of the Puducherry and Karaikal regions, he said.

Meanwhile, the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee would take out a two-wheeler rally in the town and the adjoining areas to canvas votes for Congress candidate V. Narayanasamy. Members belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Puducherry Munnetra Congress and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi would participate in the rally.

Former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has been invited for the rally, a PCC leader said.

Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam and functionaries of the Congress took out a two-wheeler rally in Villianur constituency to garner support for Mr. Narayanasamy. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam have also planned rallies.

Campaigning would come to an end by 5 p.m.
