Tension prevails in Dhularaoji village near Jaipur; accused arrested

JAIPUR: Tension prevailed in Dhularaoji village near here on Wednesday over the death of a 40-year-old farmer who was allegedly set afire by some persons over a land dispute two days ago. The police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse a crowd demanding immediate arrest of the alleged murderers.

Sariya Mali, who succumbed to his burns on Tuesday morning, stated in his dying declaration that he had a land dispute for a long time and the attackers were trying to grab his land. The police have arrested one of the accused near the village.

The villagers blocked the nearby road demanding financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh for the family of the deceased, removal of the Jamwaramgarh police Station House Officer and arrest of all the culprits. The police resorted to lathi-charge when the mob turned violent and started hurling stones.

A few persons were stated to have received minor injuries in the clash. Additional police force was rushed to the village while investigation into the case was in progress.

The police said the assailants had sprinkled kerosene on Sariya before setting him on fire when he was working in the fields.
