Expert elaborates on genetic framework of Indians, making them vulnerable
PUDUCHERRY: A sedentary lifestyle devoid of activity, excessive consumption of rice, advancing age and stress are the main determining factors in an individual becoming a diabetic, according to Chairman and Chief of Diabetology, Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre, Chennai, V. Mohan.
He was delivering the annual external oration on “Diabetes Epidemic in India – why and what can be done?” on Wednesday. It was organised by the Scientific and Academic Forum and Medical Education Unit of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, said a release. Dr. Mohan elaborated on the genetic framework of Indians, making them vulnerable to diabetes mellitus.
He highlighted factors such as lifestyle, eating habits, environment and activity of individuals which determine the onset of diabetes in an individual.
Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University D.R. Gunasekaran was present.
