Construction equipment belonging to a private construction company was set on fire by suspected left wing extremists in Kalahandi districts, on Sunday night.
The incident took place at Miangpadar, about 27 kilometres from district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna, at about 11 pm on Sunday.
Six suspected ultras had entered into camp of Shivshankar Construction Limited and took employees under hostage. Employees were herded to nearby school. Police sources said suspected Maoists organised a small meeting where employees were warned about low wage being paid to labourers.
Subsequently, they burnt down two excavation and earthmover machines, besides a tractor and bike. It was yet to be ascertained as to how many CPI (Maoist) cadres had taken part in carrying out the attack“We are investigating into the incident. Preliminary investigation does not give a clear picture as to who carried out the attack. While villagers are tight-lipped, we are not able to get independent views about the incident,” Sarthak Sarangi, Kalahandi superintendent of police, told The Hindu over phone on Monday.
