To offer quality healthcare to rural people

Facility will be offered for an hour once a week

It will be extended based on response

PUDUCHERRY: In a bid to take quality healthcare to the rural masses, Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS) along with the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Puducherry, launched an e-medicine facility at the Village Information Centres (VIC) of PMSSS.

According to a release, a panel of medical specialists would interact online from PMSSS studios via BSNL broadband connectivity attached with web cameras with patients who converge at the VICs of PMSSS.

The village outreach workers of the organisation would identify the patients and guide them to the centres. A nurse and outreach worker of PMSSS would be present at each centre to support the patients for consultation.

The e-medicine programme was launched on October 10 and people from Kanagachettikulam, Periyakalapet, Chinnakalapet, Pillaichavadikuppam, Solainagar North, Solainagar South, Kurusukuppam, Vaithikuppam, Vambakeerapalayam and Chinnaveerampattinam could avail of the facility through the VICs, the release said.

Initially, the facility would be offered for an hour in the evening once a week. The facility would be extended, based on the response from the beneficiaries. PMSSS and BSNL have proposed to extend the facilities to more VICs in Cuddalore district and Karaikal in the future.

On the first day of the programme, 20 persons from the VICs had a consultation with doctors.

General Manager of BSNL, Puducherry, Marshal Antony Leo, and Executive Director of PMSSS R. Ratchagar were present at the inaugural function.
