CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Agriculture Department has prepared elaborate District Action Plans to reverse the declining trend of wheat production over the past five years and to achieve a record production of 96.34 lakh tones of wheat during the ensuing rabi season 2006-07.
Director Agriculture R.K.Khullar said here on Monday that Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha had convened a meeting of all Deputy Directors, District Soil Conservation Officers, president of all Progressive Farmers Clubs and District Coordinators of Nehru Yuva Kendras on October 16 at Karnal to review the district plans.
He said the extension staff of the Department would work round the clock during the sowing season to acquaint the farmers with seed treatment techniques.
Mr. Khullar said the Government had initiated several other measures to increase the wheat yield. It had also made available abundant quantity of certified seeds to the farmers and was vigilant that no farmer was duped with adulterated seeds by any private agency.
Mr. Khullar disclosed that the Action Plans had been prepared under the guidance of agricultural scientists of Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar.
