Eight persons were killed and four others injured when a truck collided with a Tata Sumo on National Highway no.34 near Dhubulia of Nadia district in West Bengal on Monday, the police said.

Some critical

The incident occurred at 6 a.m. The injured, some critical, were rushed to the Saktinagar District Hospital.

According to Nadia Superintendent of Police Sabyasachi Raman Mishra, the accident occurred in the early hours in Dhubalia area when the party of eleven was returning to Krishnanagar in a Tata Sumo after attending a marriage ceremony in Murshidabad district.

The driver of the Tata Sumo died on the spot along with seven persons, police said.

The accident occurred because the truck driver failed to control his speed and collided with the Tata Sumo, police said. The truck diver is absconding.
