The dogs caught on the first day were sterilised and kept in a kennel near old bus stand

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Municipality on Wednesday launched a drive to control stray dog menace in various parts of the town.

Officials of the municipality said that the drive covered Beach Road, Bharathi Park, areas surrounding the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute and Dumas Street.

“We received several complaints of stray dog menace from these areas, especially owing to a large presence of public and tourists in this part of the town. Complaints of stray dog menace kept flowing in from morning walkers on Beach Road,” the official said.

The dogs, which were caught on the first day, have been sterilised and kept in a kennel near the old bus stand.

“We will provide food and keep the dogs for five days as post operative care.

“We will then will administer anti-rabies vaccination and release the dogs in the areas where they were caught,” the official said.
