Preparations are at final stages for the 20th South Orissa Drama Festival, scheduled to be inaugurated in the city on Saturday.

This week-long drama festival is being organised by ‘Ganjam Zilla Mancha Kalakar Sammilani', an organisation of amateur theatre activists of Ganjam district. This drama festival has been held every year for the past two decades to promote theatre activities in rural areas of south Orissa.

Some veteran stage activists of the region would be honoured during the drama festival.

According to Ramesh Moharana of the organising committee of the festival all participating amateur theatre troupes would stage complete new plays, which is the main criterion of this festival. In total six plays would be enacted during the festival. On the seventh and ultimate evening of the drama festival winners of the drama festival would be honoured.

Inaugural evening of the drama festival would have a play ‘Matira Manisa' enacted by Narasingha Gananatya of Surala.
