PATNA: Differences within the Janata Dal(United) came out in the open with the supporters of Upendra Kushwaha, who was suspended from the partyon Tuesday, burning the effigy of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the busy Dak Bungalow crossing on Wednesday. They charged that the action was biased and should be withdrawn forthwith.

At least two MLAs, including State general secretary Lallan Paswan and Manoj Kushwaha, have openly opposed the suspension of the former leader of opposition in the Assembly from the party. They said that the action smacked of anti-dalit and anti-backward face of the party.

JD(U) MP Bashisht Narain Singh who arrived here from Delhi and met a number of leaders, including the suspended leader, said that the party leadership was acting in a highhanded manner. He maintained that those who had struggled to bring the party to power in the State were being shown the door. He charged that the party was being run much like the government.
