BERHAMPUR: Disgruntled Congress activists who are opposed to candidates declared for Aska Parliamentary constituency and Assembly constituency held a protest demonstration at Aska on Sunday. They burnt the effigy of Ram Chandra Rath, who has been declared as the Congress candidate to contest from Aska parliamentary constituency. Slogans were also raised against Alekh Choudhury, the Congress candidate for Aska Assembly seat.

Similar protests by Congressmen against the party candidates were also reported from Surada and Bhanjanagar assembly segments of Aska parliamentary constituency. Congress leaders of Bhanjanagar, Nilamani Bisoi, Bipra Barik, Suryakant Parida resigned from the party.

KORAPUT: Congress was a divided house in the district as hundreds of Congress workers burnt the effigy of Giridhar Gamang, party candidate for Koraput Parliamentary constituency. Earlier, the party workers took out a rally protesting against his alleged stand against Taraprasad Bahinipati in not getting the party ticket for Jeypore assembly constituency . Similarly the effigy of Jayram Pangi, district president of BJD, was also burnt at Kalaniketan junction of Koraput for allegedly not giving party ticket to the local candidates to contest from Koraput Assembly constituency.
