BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railways urged passengers to use ‘139’ modern enquiry system as it was expecting that ensuing Puja rush would see a huge number of incoming calls to the railway stations and long queues outside the railway enquiry counters.
By dialling only “139” from any landline or mobile from anywhere in the country, a passenger would have access to a modern and upgraded enquiry system of Indian Railways.
“This is a very innovative system and is getting very popular all over the country. Enquiries can be addressed in the vernacular language also. The services offered by 139 include PNR status, updated running train position, accommodation availability and train fare enquiry,” ECoR said in a release here. Ticket booking over phone was also being introduced through this number, it said.
ECoR said by dialling “139”, any additional query could also be answered by the operators.
“It is expected that this enquiry system would help reduce travel related anxieties and queries substantially as specific information can now be obtained through mobiles or landline by dialling “139” without even prefixing any STD code,” it said.
