JAIPUR: Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is likely to effect a minor reshuffle of her Cabinet on Friday to induct the Rajput strongman from Bikaner, Devi Singh Bhati. The exercise, being done when hardly five months are left for the Rajasthan Assembly elections, is considered an attempt to woo the Rajput community.
In fact Mr.Bhati, who returned to the Bharatiya Janata Party fold last September after winning the 2003 elections as a candidate of Samajik Nyaya Manch (Social Justice Front), the party he headed, took more time than expected to get a berth in the Cabinet.
He could not be inducted in the previous Cabinet reshuffle after differences cropped up in the party over his return to the fold.
Mr. Bhati, MLA from Kolayat in Bikaner, visited the BJP office here on Thursday and met the party’s State president Omprakash Mathur. Later both of them together met Ms. Raje at her official residence. Mr. Mathur confirmed the reshuffle move.
On Wednesday Ms. Raje had reportedly consulted Bhagwan Singh Rolsahebsar, the chief of the Rajput community organization, the Pratap Foundation, in this regard. Obviously she wants the community to know that the latest reshuffle is for its sake.
However Mr. Bhati, known as a maverick politician, is aware of the time constraint he has before him in making any impact as minister. “There is very little time. Let me see what I can do,” he said.
