The Education Department has decided to initiate strict measures to end mass donation collection at villages by teachers for celebration in schools like Saraswati Puja.
Show-cause notices have been served on 15 teachers of rural schools in Ganjam district for collecting Saraswati Puja donations from parents.
According to District Inspector of Schools of Ganjam P.K. Padhi on the day of Saraswati Puja, he received complaints from parents in some villages alleging that teachers moved around the village collecting donations for Saraswati Puja in their respective schools.
Allegations related to collection of donation by teachers came against the teachers of an Upper Primary School at Guhalapur in Digapahandi block, a Middle English School at B. Nuagaon and Jarada ME School in Patrapur block.
Mr. Padhy said he has ordered to withhold the salary of the teachers concerned and issued show-cause notices to them. It was also found that the teachers and staff of the school at Jarada had cancelled classes to hold a feast a day ahead of Saraswati Puja, although the day of Saraswati Puja is a holiday. They have also been reprimanded for it.
