Activists of Socialist Unity Center of India (SUCI) staged a dharna and demonstration in front of Berhampur railway station on Friday demanding better amenities for railway passengers of the city.

They were led by State committee member of the party Bishnu Das and secretary of its city unit Somanath Behera. They also handed over a memorandum addressed to Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road of East Coast Railway in the office of the Berhampur railway superintendent. Mr. Das said although Berhampur was a major revenue generator for the Railways in Odisha, this station and its passengers were being neglected by the railway authorities. The SUCI activists came up with seven demands. One of their major demands was starting of a passenger train from Bhubaneswar to Berhampur during morning hours. According to them at present during morning time there were only express trains from Bhubaneswar to Berhampur. Passengers of smaller stations were not getting a suitable train to travel from Bhubaneswar to their home destination during in the morning.

They wanted a special waiting room to be built at Berhampur railway station for migrant labourers.
