ALIGARH: Day curfew was lifted for the first time from the entire old city of Aligarh on Saturday barring three areas since it was clamped eight days ago with examinations of Aligarh Muslim University scheduled to begin on Sunday.
Banks and other commercial organisations, closed earlier, have started functioning normally, officials said here.
Day curfew had been lifted everywhere in the city except the localities of Sabzi Mandi crossing, Katra and Dahi Wali Gali under the Kotwali police station where the trouble began last Thursday.
The AMU examinations, which had been postponed, would begin on Sunday according to the original schedule, a university spokesman said.
The dates for the examinations scheduled for the last week would be notified later, he said.
The University authorities have made transport arrangements for those who live in areas at present under night curfew, he added. - PTI
