A 55-year-old headmaster, who allegedly attempted to outrage the modesty of a Dalit student, was arrested in Malkangiri district on Thursday.

The accused, Debendra Panda, was heading the high school at a remote MPV82 village in the limits of Motu police station. According to a complaint lodged by the girl in Motu police station, it was alleged that the teacher was making his attempts for the past one year. But, he did not succeed in luring the girl.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesh Singh ordered the Deputy Superintendent (DSP) of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of the district to investigate the case. The victim was a student of class X.

The ‘nefarious’ intentions of the headmaster came to the fore when the girl complained about it to her parents. The DSP investigating the case said on Wednesday a meeting was in the village to discuss the charge.

After that it was decided that the girl should file a police complaint against the erring teacher.
