More than 24-hours of the gruesome murder of a transporter here on Thursday evening, the Cuttack city police on Friday are still clueless about the identities and motive behind the murderers.
A private bus owner Jayadev Rout (45) was brutally murdered near Arunodaya Market here under Badambadi police station after he was attacked with swords and fired at from close range. Rout, a native of nearby Shankarpur area had received at least five deep injuries in his body while he had received two gunshot injuries. He was found dead lying in a pool of blood before police arrived at the spot. While family sources allege that extortion was the motive behind the murder, police believe previous enmity could be the reason. “Rout was earlier working as a transport manager of a private company and later owned a passenger bus which was the bone of contention between him and his previous colleagues,” said city additional DCP Gurudas Kundu.
But Rout’s bereaved wife maintains that some antisocial elements of the locality were constantly demanding extortion money from him. “My husband had refused to pay dada bati and brought this to the notice of local police, which did not pay heed to,” she alleges.
Meanwhile, sources said at least three teams of the police have raided several hideouts in city and its nearby areas. But police have not yet made any breakthrough to detect the case while two persons are stated to be detained by a team of police for questioning.
