A worker of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was killed in broad daylight in the middle of a busy marketplace in the State’s South 24 Parganas district on Sunday.

The incident occurred a little past noon. The victim, 38-year-old Jahangir Mistry, was stabbed to death in the middle of a marketplace at Dosahat in the Joynagar area of the district. He was allegedly attacked by three miscreants, police sources said.

Sujan Chakraborty, CPI(M)’s South 24 Parganas district committee secretary, said, “The attack is politically motivated. He was a promising young supporter of our party. Trinamool Congress wants to ensure that an atmosphere of tension prevails in the area.”
