The Calcutta High Court on Thursday took strong exception to the way investigations into the custodial death of a person at Dhanekhali police station in Hooghly district this past January are being conducted.
On Thursday, a Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Joymalya Bagchi directed the State Government to submit a report at the next hearing on why Kazi Nasiruddin, a resident of Dhanekhali, was arrested by the police and how he died. The case will come up for hearing again on March 14. The Court said it does not think the investigations are being conducted fairly. Questioning the public prosecutor’s contention that the person had died of a heart attack, the Court said the post-mortem report showed that he had sustained injuries on his chest and back.
