The Bihar State Human Rights Commission on Friday imposed a penalty of Rs.1 lakh on four policemen and ordered recovery of the amount from their salaries for payment of compensation to an old man who was in jail for about eight months in fabricated robbery cases.

‘Collect from salary’

The Commission member, Neelmani, passed the order while disposing of an application filed by 70-year-old Ajit Nat and also asked the State Police Department to initiate action against the errant policemen.

The Rs.1 lakh fine collected from the four from their salaries be handed over to Nat as compensation latest by February 28, he ordered.

Nat had charged the four policemen with violating his human rights by implicating him in five fake dacoity cases at three police stations in Sitamarhi district and filing a charge sheet before a court in 2010 as a result of which he spent about eight months in jail in 2010.

The Commission found the four — Riga police station SHO Anirudh Prasad Singh, assistant sub-inspectors at Runnisaidpur police station Devendra Singh and Vakil Singh and assistant sub-inspector of Parsauni police station Arvind Kumar -- guilty after investigation. - PTI
