Activists of Ganjam district units of Odisha Krushak Sabha (OKS) and Odisha Khet Mazdoor Union (OKMU) staged a joint demonstration in front of the office of the Collector at Chatrapur on Friday.
They were demanding proper payment of compensation to the farmers of the district, who had incurred crop loss last year and this year. The agitating peasants were led by OKS State vice president Jagannath Mishra, OKMU State secretary Nityananda Parida, and OKS Ganjam district president Kailash Sadangi. Representatives of the peasants’ organisations also held talks with Ganjam Collector Krishen Kumar regarding their demands.
Mr. Sadangi said their agitation on Friday was a warning for the administration. If our demands were not fulfilled by December then we would take up agitation in grassroots level which may disrupt the administrative work.
