CUTTACK: Police have retrieved the body of an 18-year-old girl lying in a bush at a deserted place in Bhairpur village under Jagatpur police station, about 15 kms from here on Monday morning. The victim identified as Nirmala Sahu of the locality was a Plus II science student of the local L.N.Sahu memorial college.
Police said the girl was probably strangulated to death after being raped. Inquest reports revealed that the victim has several injuries on her private parts, chest and face. Her eyes have been severely assaulted, said the officer-in-charge of Jagatpur P.S. Sunil Mohanty.
“We have registered a case following the complaints filed by the girl’s father Arjun Sahu who has a readymade garment shop in Bhubaneswar. As per the allegation of the complainant that Nirmala was raped and murdered, we are investigating the case in that angle and keeping a track on the suspects.
No one is arrested yet”, Mohanty said.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that as usual, Nirmala along with two of her sisters had gone to the nearby pond for their morning chore. While her sisters returned home, Nirmala did not return for a while.
When family members searched for the girl after about an hour, they spotted her body lying in the bushes and informed the police.
Police have sent the body for post mortem and sought the assistance from scientific team to solve the case.
