JAIPUR: Curfew clamped on Chittaurgarh town of Rajasthan after communal violence on Saturday continued for the third day on Monday, though the situation showed some signs of improvement. The district administration indicated that the curfew would be relaxed for a couple of hours on Tuesday.
The police, after arresting 42 persons from both sides, organised a meeting of the city peace committee on Monday and short-listed 25 elderly citizens belonging to the two communities to facilitate reconciliation and restore harmony in the town.
Students of secondary classes were allowed to appear at the annual Board examinations on the basis of their admission cards in the curfew-bound areas. There was no fresh incident of violence in any part of the city.
State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria and DGP A.S. Gill visited the town for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
