Pondicherry: Chief Election Commissioner B. B. Tandon said here on Monday that a team of officers deputed by the Election Commission had gone into the complaints that a large number of persons had applied for inclusion in the voters list relating to lone Assembly constituency of Yanam region of Union Territory of Pondicherry.

Mr. Tandon who was here for reviewing the preparedness of the Union Territory for polls and also held discussions with representatives of political parties and officers of the Elections and Police departments later told newsmen that as soon as complaints of large number of applications were received in Yanam for enrolment and which were also stated to be not genuine the Commission had ordered a cent percent verification of the applications.

Officers under the control of the Commission in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh were deputed for verification.

Officials had completed the exercise and their report was awaited now. (Yanam is an enclave of Pondicherry in Andhra Pradesh).


He reiterated that the Election Commission was keeping on top priority the point that voter list should be clean and genuine.
