PUDUCHERRY: The Orleanpet police have registered cases against activists of Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Committee for holding a public meeting on Monday evening beyond the permitted time.

Superintendent of Police (North) N.T. Sivadasan told The Hindu that permission was given to Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Committee headed by organising secretary of Viduthulai Chiruthaigal Katchi Pavanan to conduct the meeting between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The meeting, addressed by Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko, went beyond the stipulated time, he said.
