CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S. F. Rodrigues on Monday inaugurated an awareness camp at Burail village to ensure comprehensive social security and health cover to the disadvantaged sections.
This new, community-based services delivery programme has a special focus on educating public opinion and enhancing awareness about the various services and facilities available to the citizens such as pensions for the old, disabled and women belonging to weaker sections of society, financial assistance to disadvantaged people for setting up their own business, health check-up of patients and training courses for girls in various professional skills.
Accompanied by his wife Jean Rodrigues, Gen. Rodrigues went round the different rooms, interacted with the service providers and social activists helping the poor and needy in filling up forms and completing various formalities for availing the benefits under different schemes.
Gen. Rodrigues told them to evolve an institutional mechanism for the follow- up of various programmes and for removing bottlenecks coming in the way of the smooth functioning of social security, health care, education and legal services delivery system.
‘Focus on healthcare’
He directed the officers to strengthen their organisational structures and increase the outreach with focus on the civic and healthcare needs of the rural and urban poor.
A special camp to familiarise the people and the elected representatives with the provisions of law and the legal aid facilities available was also held.
