BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Cabinet on Friday approved a new water policy aimed at conservation and proper utilisation of water with emphasis on drinking water.

The Cabinet also decided draw up a water plan to ensure proper distribution of water for drinking, agriculture and industrial purposes.

It was also decided to regulate use of groundwater by various industrials units. The new water policy has been formulated on the lines of the national water policy.

In another development, the Cabinet decided to set up a Fee Structure Committee to regulate the fees structures of private medical, engineering and management institutions running in the State.

A common entrance test will be conducted for admission to such institutions and 15 per cent seats will be reserved for Non-Resident Indians. The Cabinet, however, decided to seat reservation level in these institutions should not exceed 33 per cent.

The Cabinet also allowed the Gridco Corporation of Orissa Limited (Gridco) to go for and one time settlement with NTPC for clearing its pending dues.
