Congress held a training camp in the city on Friday for its candidates contesting the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Elections for Berhampur urban body is being taken too seriously by the Congress as it happens to be one of the three municipal corporations in the State and it is in the home district of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. So, the district unit of the Congress has decided to leave no stone unturned and wants its campaign to be started early in organised manner in every ward of the BMC.

The Congress has fielded 39 candidates in 40 wards of the BMC. In one ward it is supporting an independent candidate. “Around 25 of our candidates are completely new to electoral politics, so we decided to provide necessary tips and training to all our candidates before the elections,” said former Union minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu, who is monitoring the campaign process of the party in Berhampur.
