Chandigarh: The elevation of Manoranjan Kalia to the helm of BJP legislature party in the Punjab Assembly is being seen as an attempt by the saffron party to project a youthful leadership.
Kalia, a bachelor with youthful exuberance and impressive experience, was among the leaders who steered the party to an unparallel victory in the Punjab polls winning 19 of the 23 seats contested.
The party design, it seems, is to cash in on Kalia's vibrancy and experience as an organisational leader and a Minister in the previous SAD-BJP Government to reap the benefits in the Lok Sabha polls to be held after two years.
The party also banks on his knack of taking along various factions in the State unit.
Kalia's father late Manmohan Kalia has been a Minister in the 1969 SAD-BJP coalition Government led by Parkash Singh Badal. Kalia has been a front-runner in the party organisation right from the beginning. -- PTI
