The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday approached the State Human Rights Commission seeking an inquiry into the multi-crore dal scam.

A delegation of the party met the Chairperson of Commission and submitted a petition requesting the commission to hold an enquiry into supply to substandard dal under Mid-Day Meal Scheme and Supplementary Nutrition Programme covering over one crore women and children.

The delegation requested the Chairperson to direct the authorities to immediately withdraw the substandard and rotten dal that had been supplied to hundreds of primary schools and anganwadi centres.

In the petition, the party also prayed the Commission to direct the State government to conduct detailed medical examination of the vulnerable persons who were the beneficiaries under the two schemes.

Although the scam was unearthed last month, the authorities were yet to replace the poor quality dal that was supplied under the MDM and SNP.

Minister of Women and Child Development Prafulla Samal on Wednesday said instructions had been issued to the district administrations concerned to replace the substandard dal with better quality dal.
