‘State protecting the interests of industrial houses only'

BHUBANESWAR: The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Saturday accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led government of “criminalising” State police force in the wake of violence in Kalinganagar and Jagatsinghpur where industrial projects were coming up.

Addressing a press conference here, State BJP spokesperson Ashok Sahu said, “we strongly condemn the State government's repressive measures on poor people at Kalinganagar and POSCO project area in Dhinkia, Nuagaon, Gadakujanga and Balitutha villages in name of industrialisation.”

“Chief Minister has not only criminalised the administration but also acted as a paid stooge of private companies.

His action as also Home Minister exposed his priority which is to promote the interests of industrial houses and not to upkeep interest of people of Orissa,” Mr. Sahu said launching a scathing attack.

State BJP charged that the State government tried to destroy evidence pertaining to murder of Laxman Jamuda in Kalinganagar on May 12.

“As there was police firing on May 12 and a citizen died on the spot, why and how autopsy was conducted in a village PHC? Why the autopsy was not ordered to be done at SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack which is only one and half hour drive from Kalinganagar?” asked BJP spokesperson raising his doubts.

CBI probe sought

If the Chief Minister was transparent in his dealings, there would have been video recording of the postmortem examination, he said.

Mr. Sahu, who was also a former IPS officer, asked as to how the dead body was handed over to a person who was a minor and not directly descendant of the deceased.

“Laxman Jamuda murder case is yet another fit case to be handed over to CBI for impartial investigation,” BJP spokesperson said.

He informed that parliamentary group comprising Balbir Punj, Nishikant Dubey, Rudranarayan Pani and Bhupendra Yadav would visit Kalinganagar on Monday. They would also go to POSCO project area in Jagatsinghpur.
