CUTTACK: Lethal bowling attacks from Bhubaneswar medium fast bowlers Alok Mangaraj and Basant Mohanty ensured Bhubaneswar-A to win the prestigious Kalahandi Cup-2010 defeating Cuttack-B in a low-scoring final match played at Bidanasi sports ground here on Saturday. After restricting the fancied Cuttack team to a paltry 94 in 44.5 overs, the Bhubaneswar boys romped home surpassing the target in just 18.5 overs losing only three wickets.
Put to bat first, the Cuttack boys just could not face the deadly opening spells of medium fast bowlers Alok Mangaraj (5 for 44) and Basant Mohanty (3 for 9). Losing wickets at regular intervals, the local boys folded up their innings with only 94 runs on the board. While Partha Samal of the host team became the highest scorer of the side with 22 runs and Debasis Kar contributing 21 runs to the total, no other batsmen from Cuttack made any notable contribution for the side. While the deadly combination of Alok and Basant (together accounting for eight wickets between themselves) took the sheen out of Cuttack batting, Paresh Patel took two wickets giving away 20 runs to ensure that the Cuttack team does not reach the three figure mark. The winners lifting the cup that was donated by Maharaja P.K. Deo , also pocketed Rs. 20,000 as cash prize.
