Minister lauds efforts of organisers

CUTTACK: The ninth Barabati dance festival that had started on December 25 in front of the Barabati fort ended here on Tuesday evening with thousands of culture-loving people of the city witnessing scintillating performances.

On the concluding day Panchayat Raj Minister Prafulla Samal, Banki legislator Pravat Tripathy, CMC Commissioner R.N. Nanda and senior journalist Arun Panda were guests.

The five-day old festival saw a heavy footfall at the open stage, which aptly proved that the city is truly the cultural capital of the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized more and more such cultural functions should be organized in the city to attract the tourists. The Minister highly commended the efforts of the organization for conducting such a grand festival.

Local based Odishi Nrutya Mandal of Guru Ashis Das is organising this festival continuously for last nine years and the festival has seen some international standard performances of all classical and folkdances of the country.

On the concluding day, the artists from Kolkata with their perfect execution of Odishi dance entertained the audience. Nupur dance academy of the city too caught the imagination of the audience with the ballet receiving great ovation from the audience.

Apart from the dance performances, the audience also had an opportunity to witness a mini Baliyatra on the occasion as the organisers had set up at least 30 stalls selling various kinds of ethnic items. People in large numbers made heavy purchases as the stall owners made brisk business.

The organisers were earlier holding a filigree exhibition during the festival. But this was stopped this year as filigree artists stopped coming here for lack of adequate security provision.
