Bangladesh will be the theme country at the 37{+t}{+h}International Kolkata Book Fair and the country’s celebrated author and academician Anisuzzaman will inaugurate it on January 26, 2013, said Publishers and Book Sellers’ Guild, the organiser of the Fair, on Friday.

The inauguration has been brought forward from the usual date — January 30 — with a view to providing more time to small and medium book publishers participating in the fair. It will continue till February 10.

“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested that it will be beneficial if the time period is increased keeping in mind the small and medium scale publishers from the State,” said Publishers and Book Sellers’ Guild general secretary Tridib Chatterjee.

Besides Bangladesh, there will be pavilions from Britain, America, Italy, Vietnam, China, Israel, and Costa Rica, among others, he said. Works of three prominent Bengali authors -- Sunil Gangopadhyay, Syed Mustafa Siraj and Humayun Ahmed, all of whom died earlier this year -- will be specially displayed.

Just like the fair’s last edition, the Kolkata Literary Meet will also be held during the fair. It will witness the participation of Nobel Prize winning authors.
