Police asked to carry on the investigation with her mother in judicial custody
Koderma (Jharkhand): A fresh bail petition by the mother of the Delhi-based journalist Nirupama Pathak, found dead at her Tilaiya home in a suspected case of “honour killing”, was rejected by a local court on Saturday.
Chief Judicial Magistrate N. K. Agarwal rejected the fresh bail petition by Sudha Pathak after she withdrew the previous petition on Friday to make a fresh appeal with additional inputs.
The court asked the police to carry on their investigation into the mysterious death with her mother in judicial custody.
Sudha was arrested and sent to judicial custody in connection with her 22-year-old daughter's death under mysterious circumstances on April 29.
The police, investigating among other angles whether the incident was a case of family honour killing, have also filed a case of rape and abetment to suicide against Nirupama's New Delhi-based journalist boyfriend Priyabhanshu Ranjan, whom she was to marry, on the direction of the local court. -- PTI
