Sangram Keshari Mohanty, who had been arrested by Gajapati district police on Wednesday on charges of transporting arms, ammunition and other materials to ultras of Sabyasachi Panda group, was denied bail.

Sangram happens to be the son of Dandapani Mohanty, the Maoist sympathiser who had mediated between the Maoists and State government during abduction of Malkangiri Collector R.Vinnel Krishna in 2011 and kidnapping of two Italian tourists in Kandhamal district this year.

Sangram along with his accomplish Kailash Mandal were produced before the Judicial Magistrate at R.Udaygiri at around midnight on Wednesday. Both were sent to R.Udaygiri jail as their bail plea was rejected. According to Mr. Dandapani, bail plea of his son would again be moved in the Gajapati district sessions court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sangram had started hunger strike in R.Udaygiri jail claiming that he had been illegally arrested. His father had also filed an FIR in a police station in Berhampur with the allegation that some alleged policemen had abducted his son from Berhampur and later shown him to be arrested from Gajapati district. Mr. Dandapani also suspected that his son may have fallen prey to the some political conspiracy. According to him, his son had recently joined the Jan Morcha, the new outfit formed by Rajya Sabha MP, Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, who has been expelled from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
