CHANDIGARH: Even as an uneasy calm prevailed in Haryana following sporadic violence allegedly by supporters of the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda, there were reports of some anti-social elements torching a bus at Badondi village in Kurukshetra disrtrict early on Monday morning.

Reports reaching the State headquarters here said alert villagers noticed the fire and brought it under control. The village Sarpanch later informed the police of the incident. Supporters of the sect had gone on the rampage this past Saturday evening damaging and setting afire government property including Haryana Roadways buses in several parts of the State. T

hey were protesting against the registration of a fresh murder case against the sect’s head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Haryana Police was placed on high alert and six companies of paramilitary forces were also deployed in different parts of the State especially Fatehabad, Hisar, Kaithal and Sirsa. Several persons were also arrested in raids. According to official sources, public transport was affected on Monday also in the areas where the Dera supporters had reportedly indulged in violent acts.

The sect head is already facing trial in a CBI court at Ambala in two cases of murder and one of rape. The investigating agency had registered a fresh case of murder against the Baba and four other functionaries after probe into the murder of a former Dera managerin 1991.
