Aerobics, karate on display at school’s sports day

Ruby house emerge as The Study’s champions

PUDUCHERRY: ‘The Study’ conducted its fourth Sports Day on February 12. Various sports and games were conducted on the occasion.

The day began with a march past by the four houses of the school — Sapphire, Topaz, Emerald and Ruby. Principal of the school Alice Kisku declared open the sports meet. Aerobics, yoga drill, karate demonstration and pyramid formations were demonstrated by the students. Ruby house emerged as champions winning by 303 points.

Karthikeyan of Standard V won the silver medal in the ninth level of abacus competition held in Chennai.

Students selected for NTSE

Five students of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School — S. Suseendhran, G. Vignesh, M. Anandavel, S. Mukesh and V. Abarna of Standard VIII — have been selected in the first stage of the National Talent Search Examination held on November 8. They were among the 10 selected from the Union Territory to take part in the second stage of the examination.

The following students of the school won various prizes in the State School Games Championship 2009-2010 held from January 28 to 31. Badminton — S. Sri Balaji of Standard VI and V. Deva of Standard VII won the first place in sub-junior boys category, S. Roopavathi and I. Sangavi of Standard IX won the first place in junior girls category, while P. Sri Kogila of Standard VII came third in the sub-junior girls event.

Basketball: In the combined grade (boys) category, P. Mohana Chandru and P. Arun Prasath of Standard XI won the third place. In skating, V. Subashini of Standard VIII came third in the event figure in sub-junior girls category and S. Shalini of Standard IX took the third prize in event ring 1 and 2 event in junior girls category.

In the State Judo Championship 2009-2010 held on January 31, P. Surabhi Selvan of Standard IX secured the third place and won the bronze medal and S. Shankar of Standard IX came fourth in the below 60 kg (17-19) category.

Science quiz contest

At a science quiz competition organised by The Hindu and Sathyabhama University on February 1, students of Blessed Mother Teresa Model Higher Secondary School — R. Monika Sharma, I. Jyothi Sharma, Priya Sharma, Hemant Sharma, Ramalakshmi, Subhashtri — were awarded participation certificates.

The Lotus Kalai Koodam, Lawspet, conducted an inter-school competition and students of the school participated and won various prizes — Sushmitha of LKG won the first prize, Mahaswaran and Mohanlakshmi of LKG, Belsi Trisha and Poornima of UKG won consolation prizes in rhymes competition. Abirami of Standard VII won the first prize in dance competition and Deva Priya came second. Vijaya Ananda of Standard VII came second followed by Muthu Kumar of Standard VII in third place, while Swapna of Standard IX and J. Parbanjan received consolation prizes in vocal competition.

E. Sri Ananda Sambavi participated in School Games Federation of India conducted at Punjab and received a participation certificate. She was also awarded the following prizes in various events held in Puducherry organised by State and School games competitions — secured second prize in 100 metres, third prize in 200 m and first prize in 4x100 m relay.

Tirunelveli District Aquatic organised the IV Tamil Nadu State Age Group Swimming Meet – 2010 in which Y. Rukshana of Standard VI secured third place in 100 m backstroke and won the bronze medal. She also won the first place in 100 m butterfly and received the gold medal. She won the second place in 200 m and received silver medal and a cash award of Rs.225.
