BERHAMPUR: The Additional District Judge (ADJ) court of Gunupur in Rayagada district on Thursday granted bail to the secretary and the administrative officer of Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET), Gunupur. Mr. Mishra said he had pleaded that there were no direct evidences with the police against his clients. The court ordered payment of Rs. 25,000 and surety by two localites for getting bail. Mr. Mishra reiterated that his clients were innocents and it was no crime to carry Rs. 12 lakhs in cash in one’s vehicle.
As per Rayagada district police, they had received intelligence reports that the officials of the GIET were to pay up a large sum of money to Maoists. A special police team had tracked and arrested the duo near Kenduguda, a naxal- infested area on the border of Rayagada and Gajapati districts. A sum of Rs. 12 lakhs was seized from their vehicle.
