CUTTACK: Striking house surgeons of Orissa, who were boycotting their internships demanding hike in their monthly stipend, called off their stir on Thursday evening following an assurance by the State government.

“The five-day long strike was called off in all the three government medical colleges and hospitals and we would resume our duties immediately,” said All Orissa House Surgeons’ Association president Biswajit Mohapatra.

“The hike in our stipend would be implemented retrospectively from October, 2008.”
