Berhampur: Victory or defeat doesn’t matter as fighting elections is his hobby. Bracing up for another battle in first phase of polls on April 16, K. Shyam Babu Subudhi has filed his nomination from Berhampur as well as Aska Lok Sabha constituencies in Orissa as an Independent candidate.

Dubbed as ‘King Robert Bruce’ of Orissa politics, the 73-year-old man is not disheartened after losing as many as 25 elections and decided to contest from two Lok Sabha seats in Ganjam district. This never-say-die Independent wants to contest more elections than any other candidates to set a record.

Taking part in election is his passion. “When I contest I certainly hope to win and one day the people will elect me,” Mr. Subudhi said after filing his nomination from Aska Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday. If C. Padmarajan of Mettur in Tamil Nadu contested as many as 62 times so far, Mr. Subudhi has taken part on 25 occasions. A homeopath, who lost his deposits in all the 15 Lok Sabha and 10 Assembly elections he contested, Mr. Subudhi feels that his effort was to reform the electoral process. “I will contest till my last breath,” he said. “I want to reform the election process to free it from the money and muscle power,” he added. Many people were afraid of fighting elections due to money and muscle power, he claimed. -PTI
