PUDUCHERRY: An exclusive building for Madanjeet Singh Institute of South Asian Regional Cooperation will be established at Pondicherry University.

Vice-Chancellor of the university J.A.K. Tareen said on Tuesday that Madanjeet Singh, founder of South Asia Foundation, had promised to provide funds for setting up the institution at the convocation of the university held recently.

“Mr. Singh has sanctioned $1 million and an additional fund of Rs. 2.5 crore for establishing the exclusive building. We will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding shortly,” Mr. Tareen said.

A renowned architect would be visiting the university on May 7 for discussions to construct a convention centre with a capacity of 2,500. Small seminar halls would also be constructed in the centre. “The convention centre will be constructed on the front side on East Coast Road. We will be choosing a place to construct an amphitheatre,” he said.

The convention centre would also have an art gallery dedicated to Dravidian artefacts, art and culture.
