Supporters hail Hooda's decision on special package

CHANDIGARH: Supporters of Haryna Power Minister Venod Sharma in his Ambala City constituency are in an upbeat mood after the Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, accepted all the demands raised by Mr. Sharma and announced a special economic package for development of the region at a function this past Sunday.

While denying any apparent infighting among the Congressmen in the Ambala belt, insiders said that by publicly reposing faith and trust in his seniormost Minister, Mr.Hooda sent a clear message that Mr.Sharma was very close to him and he continued to "call the shots'' in the State.

According to a municipal councillor, the announcement by the Chief Minister of setting up of a Special Economic Zone and packages for improving the drinking water, drainage and sewerage problems would transform the life of the region as a whole.

Another worker said that Mr.Sharma, who till last year was an outsider for the constituency, had fulfilled his poll promise to usher in rapid industrialisation in the area. Moreover, the common man, who faced drainage and sewerage problems for several years, would now heave a sigh of relief as sanitation would obviously improve. .

Interestingly, the huge turn-out, both rural and urban, at the public meeting organised in the New Anaj Mandi on Sunday to pay homage to the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi came as a surprise to Mr.Sharma's political detractors who had initially opposed his entry to the constituency but were later on keeping a low and muted profile.
