Fast Track Court II of Phulbani in Kandhamal district on Tuesday convicted eight persons for their involvement in rioting after murder of VHP leader Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati on August 23, 2008. The convicts were sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fine worth Rs. 5,000 each. They were involved in arson and rioting at Raibhanj village under Tikabali police station limits. According to sources 19 other accused in the case were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
