BERHAMPUR: A gamble through a well planned professional campaign could enable Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to win the Berhampur parliamentary constituency, a traditional bastion of the Congress.
Oriya cine-star turned BJD candidate Siddhant Mohapatra trampled Congress heavyweight, Union Minister of State and working president of the Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), Chandrasekhar Sahu by a margin of over 50,000.
Most Congress leaders were stunned by this feat by Mr. Mohapatra who was thought to be political novice.
Mr. Mohapatra termed his win to be an outcome of people’s love for his leader Naveen Patnaik, the BJD party and himself, which could be consolidated into votes. He also attributed his win to hard work of his supporters and party workers during the short period of campaign.
This win also proved that a well crafted professional Public Relation (PR) planning can do wonders in the political arena. The campaign managers of Mr. Mohaptra claim it was first professionally designed political campaign for any political candidate in the State .
Away from the lime-light, a three-member team drew up the strategy and intricacies of the star studded campaign of Mr. Mohapatra.
This team comprised of Chitta Mohapatra, the younger brother of the BJD candidate, Pinaki Biswas and Alok Nanda.
This trio with ample experience of event management had decided to use the short period of campaign to their maximum benefit.
