District Artistes' Federation was formed here on Thursday to rejuvenate the dying traditional art form. It will also be instrumental in spreading the message of flagship departments in the district, according to Ramdas Majhi, ADM.
The federation will also provide some employment support to the performing artistes in a systematic manner, he says. The initiative to form such a federation by the district administration has received the support of Unicef and NGOs such as IAEET of Koraput.
According to Amaresh Satpathy of IAEET, 132 artiste groups, performing 15 different art forms in Koraput district, have been selected for getting involved in the process. Prior to the formation of district-level federation, block-level federations have already been formed in all the 14 blocks of the district. While the federation is an umbrella organisation comprising artiste groups of the district, it will also become a platform for the people of remote regions in the district to express themselves in their own language and perspective, says Mr. Satpathy.
Members from different blocks attended the meeting to select the district-level functionaries of the federation.
