Students make a mark in a range of events

PUDUCHERRY: A student of Class VI of St. Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School, Oviya Kirubanandham was declared winner in the cadet girls’ event at the State-level ranking table tennis championship conducted by St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School from July 3 to 5. S. Nivedha of Standard V was the runner up in the mini cadet girls’ event.

Events held

A scholastic book fair was held at Achariya Siksha Mandir, Villianur from July 1 to 3. Students took part in the fair and purchased books on fantasy stories and puzzles. Students of Class IX and XI participated in the National Service Scheme rally organised by the NSS and Scouts team on July 10. The rally, which was held on the beach road, was to create awareness on women’s education and welfare.

The Puducherry government conducted sports events for students from May 20 to 23 at Karaikal. Several athletes from Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam participated. N. Keshini of the school won the first prize in the shot-put event in the under-14 category. Chief Mentor of Achariya Institution of World Class Education J. Arawindhan congratulated the student in the presence of R. Mani Vijayaraghavan, Principal of the school. Director of Physical Education Kumaresan and Physical Education Instructor R.A. Vasanthkumar were present.

Bharat Scouts and Guides of the school along with the Department of Health and Red Cross Society conducted a seminar on International Anti-Tobacco and Drug Abuse on June 26. Director of Health Dilip Kumar Baliga was present. The seminar discussed the types of drugs and its dangers.

The Indo-French Alliance Club was inaugurated in the school on June 24. A French professor Emmanuel Guerineau was present. Mr. Arawindhan released the French phonetic cards and the students conversed in French language.

Table tennis championship

St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School organised the seventh State-level ranking table tennis championship. Correspondent and Principal of Vivekananda Higher Secondary School S. Selvaganapathy and President of Pondicherry State Table Tennis Association V. Gnanasambandam inaugurated the tournament on July 3. Students from government and private schools took part in the tournament.

Mr. Gnanasambandam, Fr. P. Paul Rajkumar, Principal and Secretary of Pope John Paul II College of Education and P. Karunakaran, Honorary Secretary of the association distributed the prizes for winners of the tournament on July 5. Correspondent of the school S. Regis, Directrix Lily Regis, Principal R. Fredrick were present.

Drawing contest

P. Nivetha of Standard VII of Achariya Bala Siksha Mandir, Uppalam bagged the first prize in Saffron-08 drawing competition conducted by Kalaimagal Kalai Koodam. She also won the second prize in the drawing competition conducted by Dhanalakshmi School of Arts. S. Nithyasri of Standard IV bagged the second prize in Saffron-08 Drawing Competition.

A talk on health, hygiene and child psychology was held for parents of the pre-primary students on July 11. Chidambaram, a paediatrician and Shenmugapriya, a psychologist addressed the students. The staff would undergo training in robot making by Robotics, Net link technologies, Chennai from July 15 to 17.

Prizes won

Students of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School won a number of prizes at the seventh State-level table tennis competition conducted by St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School. V. Sudarsanane of Class VII was the winner in the cadet boys’ level and N. Aakash Kanna of Class V was the runner-up.

In the sub-junior boys’ level, K. Lokesh of Class VIII emerged winner and also won in the junior boys’ category, while R. Vijaykrishnan of Class XI was the runner-up. L.

Krishna Kumar of Standard IX was declared winner in the non-medalist singles.

A special meeting was arranged to create awareness about traffic rules, safety measures to be taken while riding, importance of possessing a valid license by students using two-wheelers. Inspector of Police, Grand Bazaar Police Station, Bascaran, addressed the students on the occasion. Principal of the school Fr. M.S. John Bosco was present.
